Incident at 15 NM SouthWest Stephenville (ATS operating irregularity)


1999-09-20: UAL998 B767 routing ALEX direct CYMON and was cleared FL330 Block FL350 in Moncton's Airspace. NWA50 routing MIILS direct Gander at FL330. Although UAL998 was cleared in an altitude block they had entered Gander's Airspace at FL340 and had remained at FL340. At 0053z while both aircraft were crossing with less than 5 miles radar separation (NWA50 FL330 UAL998 FL340) UAL998 reminded Gander of the altitude block and was then cleared to maintain FL340. Nil TSB. Update: NAV CANADA will be conducting a Fact Finding Board to investigate the incident. TSB File # A99A0122
