Accident at Charlo NB


1999-09-10: CGQTJ PA23 departed VFR from Charlo to Grand Falls. 15nm South East of Charlo the pilot reported returning to Charlo with a Door Problem. Aircraft crashed about 1000 feet short of the button of Runway 13. The pilot who was the only one onboard was not injured. TSB Atlantic Region is evaluating. TSB file # A99A0115. Update: The pilot experienced difficulties controlling the aircraft and when returning to the airport was late in putting the gear down. The pilot flew down the length of the runway waiting for the Gear to lock down. When the gear was locked, the pilot set the aircraft down but there was not enough runway available to stop. Aircraft over ran the runway and travelled a short distance before hitting the perimeter fence. More details expected from the TSB.
