Incident at GANDER INTL NL (CYQX)

Summary

1999-08-06: PAC617, a B-747 had landed on runway 04 at Gander and was rolling out when the tower controller noticed that the aircraft seemed to be travelling very fast. He also noticed what appeared to be black smoke and fire coming from the number 1 engine. The aircraft stopped at the very end of the runway and advised that no assistance was required. The operator and maintenance personnel in Gander will advise the TSB of their findings.
