Incident at Gander Oceanic (ATS operating irregularity)


1999-07-05: ELY017 B747 FL350 routing 61/30 59/40 57/50 LOACH (original routing passed to Gander by Prestwick) DLH442 A340 was routed 60/30 59/40 57/50 LOACH. ELY017 was rerouted 61/30 60/40 58/50 PORGY. ELY017 progressed 30W at 1446z and estimated 59/40 1526z. Gander called Prestwick to confirm routing. Prestwick advised that routing had been confirmed with Rejklavik. ELY017 progressed 59/40 at 1527z. DLH442 progressed 60/30 at 1441z and had requested FL360. DLH442 was cleared at 1451z at was level FL360 at 1457z. Approximatley 5 minutes longitudinal separation existed between both aircraft where 15 minutes was required. The lateral spacing bewteen tracks eroded to approximately 40 nm where 60 nm was required. Investigation underway by Prestwick and Rejklavik. Nil TSB Update: TSB Case closed. File # A99A0089
