Summary

1999-06-24: ARN853 DH8 enroute Halifax to Boston FL240 reported Smoke in the cockpit. Crew donned masks, declared emergency and initiated descent. Aircraft landing in Boston, assessed situation on Runway and taxied to the gate without further incident. Maintenance found evidence of heavy arcing on a loose terminal on the first officer's windshield heating system. The terminal was cleaned, secured and function checked serviceable. Aircraft has been returned to service. TSB case closed. TSB file # A99F0039
