Incident at Halifax Intl


1999-05-04: On landing at Halifax, ICN 2212 FA28 IFR Ottawa to Halifax, the pilot reported that the aircraft exited Runway 33 in the vicinity of taxiway Bravo. The aircraft re-entered the runway under its own power and taxiied to the ramp.The pilot later advised that an inspection of the aircraft revealed no damage. The airport foreman advises that there was no damage to property on the ground, and no debris. TSB evaluating. #A99A0057 Update: THE CREW OF ICN2212 WAS FLYING A VECTORED BACK COURSE APPROACH TO RUNWAY 33 WITH THE FIRST OFFICER AT THE CONTROLS. WINDS WERE GUSTY AND HEADING CHANGES FROM TEN DEGREES RIGHT TO FIVE DEGREES LEFT WERE REQUIRED FOR CORRECTION. AT MDA AND 2 DME THE CAPTAIN CALLED THE FIELD IN SIGHT. THE FIRST OFFICER PASSED CONTROL TO THE CAPTAIN WHO COMPLETED THE APPROACH TO LANDING. ON LANDING, THE AIRCRAFT VEERED AND ITS LEFT MAIN GEAR WENT ONTO THE SOD NEAR TAXIWAY "B". THE AIRCRAFT REGAINED THE RUNWAY SURFACE UNDER ITS OWN POWER AND TAXIED TO THE RAMP. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT OR TO THE AIRPORT PROPERTY. THE HALIFAX 2300 ATIS "V" WAS 350/20G31 5/8 -SW 3BKN 120VC 0/-0 29.51. THE HALIFAX 00:00Z WEATHER (TWENTY MINUTES PRIOR TO OCCURRENCE) WAS: -X 34024G35KT 5/8SM R15/3000FT SW- BKN003 OVC010 00/00 A2953 SN3SF6SC2. THE HALIFAX 01:00Z WEATHER (FORTY MINUTES AFTER OCCURRENCE) WAS: -X 33026G36KT 3/4SM R15/4500FT SHSN- BKN004 OVC012 00/00 A2957 SN2SF5SC2. RUNWAY CONDITONS WERE 100 PERCENT SLUSH 1/8 INCH.
