Incident at St. John's

1999-03-18: CHI31 AS32 about to depart Torbay for Hibernia , experienced a rotor brake fire which was extinguished prior to arrival of the ground crew. Helicopter sustained minimum damage. Case Closed Update : The pilot observed both fire warning lights illuminate while advancing #2 engine power levers after startup. During shutdown procedures he realized that he had inadvertently left the rotor brake selected to the "LOW" bar position instead of "OFF". Preliminary visual damage indicated several overheated main rotor drive components. Operator has initiated a review of the aircraft start procedures checklist and company SOP's. TSB File # A99A003
