Incident at 40 NM NNW St. John's Airport

Summary

1999-02-08: ARN837 DH8 departed runway 34 at 2108z and after radar identified was cleared to 14,000 feet enroute Gander. SPR602 SW3 departed runway 29 at 2110z and after radar identified was cleared to 12,000 feet enroute Gander. While climbing, SPR602 was advised of ARN837 and reported having the flight visual. SPR602 outclimbed ARN837 to 12,000 feet. When ARN837 was climbing through 12,000 feet, radar separation eroded to less then 3 miles. SPR602 was given vectors away from ARN837. ARN837 was advised of the traffic and also received a TCAS alert. As ARN837 passed through 13,000 feet, separation was established. NIL - TSB. Update: TSB case close. TSB file # A99A014.
