Incident at Hopedale Lab. (Aerodrome - runway or taxiway surface condition)

Summary

1999-01-19: CGASA BE55 landing Hopedale pilot reported that during the landing the aircraft struck 18 inch high hard packed snow drifts. He brought the aircraft to a stop on the runway, shutdown the engines and exited the aircraft to inspect the landing gear. No damage was observed. Pilot reentered the aircraft and as he was about to start the engines, the landing gear collapsed. The pilot reported that he had filed a Flight plan and checked for Notams prior to departing Nain and that no Notams had been issued. TSB case closed
