Accident at TORONTO / LESTER B. PEARSON INTL ON (CYYZ) (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)


1997-05-12: At 2227Z, an initial alert was broadcast that TRI105, landing on runway 33R, had a landing gear unsafe indication. At 2233Z, the aircraft was flown by the tower for a visual inspection (all gear suspended down but the tower staff couldn't determine if the gear was in the proper position). The aircraft landed on runway 33R at 2248Z and both main landing gear slowly collapsed. The initial alert was upgraded to a crash on airport. The passengers evacuated the aircraft promptly while a vehicle responded to pick them up. The alert was stood down at 2312Z, being treated as a disabled aircraft. Runway 33R was closed between taxiways B2 and G. Normal dual 24 operations continued. Eight (8) S.O.B. - no injuries presumed.
