Incident at Kasabonika, Ontario

1997-05-02: After landing the ski-equipped C185 at the ice strip at Kasabonika, the pilot reportedly forgot to shut off the aircraft master switch which drained the battery. The pilot attempted to start the engine by "hand-bombing" the propeller. The engine started; however, the unsecured aircraft ran into a dock before the pilot could get back into the aircraft. The pilot continued to fly the aircraft and did not report the occurrence to the company. After becoming aware of the occurrence, the company inspected the aircraft and found damage to the propeller, necessitating inspection of the engine and replacement of the propeller. The occurrence was reported by the aircraft owner. The pilot had been fired and was not available for comment.
