Incident at Niagara Falls, Ontario


1997-05-15: While in the hover, the aircraft experienced an overspeed and initiated engine shut-down. The pilot landed the aircraft with no damage reported. Ops. Impact -- unknown. Supplemental information from T.S.B. Initial Notification (#A97O0068): While in hover with the Bell 407 helicopter, the pilot reported that the helicopter engine (Allison 250C-47B) oversped and shut down as it was designed to do. The pilot carried out an engine out landing from the hover without further incident. There was no reported damage to the helicopter. Company maintenance reported that they did not find any fault with the engine Fadec system and believe that contamination in the hydro mechanical unit may have caused the problem. Two (2) S.O.B. - no injuries.
