Incident at Vicinity of Brandon, MB (Conflict - potential)

Summary

1997-10-30: Mustang 81 was on an IFR training flight from Portage La Prairie to Brandon to Dauphin and back to Portage La Prairie. Ranger 78 was also doing an IFR training flight from Portage La Prairie to Brandon and then back to Portage La Prairie. Mustang 81 was cleared to do an approach and missed approach at Brandon, followed by a restriction to maintain 4000 feet until 20 DME from Brandon, and then climb to 6000 feet, the flight-planned altitude, so as not to conflict with Ranger 78 who was at 5000 feet. Mustang 81 completed the missed approach and made contact with the controller reporting level at 6000 feet. The controller questioned the pilot of Mustang 81 with regard to the altitude restriction, and the pilot acknowledged the mistake and apologized. There was no risk of collision.
