Incident at Thompson, MB (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)

Summary

1997-10-28: The airport at Thompson was closed by the airport manager (APM) for about 90 minutes because of snow and unsafe runway conditions. Skyward Aviation advised the APM of an inbound a/c of theirs which was a medevac and the runway would have to be cleared. The information that the FSS staff had at the time indicated that the a/c was not a medevac, but airport staff stated that they would attempt to open the runway as soon as possible. The crew of the inbound Skyward flight, SGK 711, were advised of the snowclearing operations and they requested a hold. The crew subsequently diverted to Pukatawagan.
