Incident at Yellowknife, NWT (TCAS alert)
1997-09-26: FAB 862 was inbound to Yellowknife from Resolute Bay and contacted Yellowknife Tower at 47 DME at 2058Z. At the time, FAB 862 was descending through 15,000 feet. Also at 2058Z, C-GSYN departed VFR from Yellowknife for Cambridge Bay, and it was believed C-GSYN would pick up an IFR clearance after passing FAB 862. Traffic was relayed to both a/c and each a/c reported having the other in sight. Shortly after, the crew of FAB 862 reported a TCAS resolution advisory, and were following the instructions of the RA. The "climb, climb" command from the TCAS could clearly be heard on Tower frequency. At the same time, the pilot of C-GSYN reported passing FAB 862. It is not known how close the two a/c passed each other.
