Incident at Vicinity of Medicine Hat, AB

1997-09-17: KFA 103 was enroute from Winnipeg to Vancouver and near Medicine Hat when the crew advised ATC of an oil leak in one of the engines. The crew requested clearance to divert to Calgary and also asked for priority in order that a landing could be made before the engine had to be shut down. Although Runway 16 was active, KFA 103 was cleared straight in on Runway 34, where it landed safely at 0325Z. The crew did not declare an emergency and declined ERS equipment. There were no other a/c delayed, and one a/c departed on Runway 10 rather than wait for Runway 16. UPDATE Maintenance examination revealed an oil leak at the main oil filter of the number 1 engine. The a/c had 1 gallon of the normal 2 gallons of oil upon landing. The filter and seals were replaced and the a/c put back in service.
