Incident at Edmonton, AB

Summary

1997-09-08: CDR 1197 was in the climb after taking off from Runway 02 at 2338Z. As CDR 1197 was being vectored in a right hand turn, the crew reported a near miss with an unidentified ultralight a/c at about 5500 feet ASL. CDR 1197 did not take evasive action and the ultralight passed about 300 feet below and 1/2 mile to the right. The ultralight did not have a transponder and did not communicate with ATC.
