Incident at NW of Rocky Mountain House, AB

Summary

1997-08-11: C-GWDI was on a VFR flight from Prince George to Red Deer with two people on board when the pilot became lost in deteriorating weather over the foothills northwest of Rocky Mountain House. The pilot broadcast on 121.5 and was able to make contact with several overflying a/c which offered assistance, in particular a Beechcraft King Air of Northern Thunderbird Air, which remained on scene until the incident was concluded. Over a period of 2 1/4 hours, with the relay assistance of the overflying a/c, controllers provided navigational assistance using their detailed knowledge of the local area to direct C-GWDI to a safe landing at Drayton Valley at 0345Z.
