1997-07-25: The owner of C-FTBS
, a single engine wheel-equipped Silvaire (Luscombe) Observer, decided to go on a local VFR cross country pleasure flight from Boissevain to Killarney and back with a friend who was also a pilot and who would do the flying. The trip was uneventful until they got to Killarney and decided to do some circuits. On the second touch and go, the a/c landed short of Runway 12 and came to rest inverted in a wheat field. The passenger received minor injuries and was treated and released from hospital. The TSB is investigating. UPDATE As the a/c made the second approach, the pilot believed that the a/c was too fast, so he thought that he could bleed off airspeed by descending. The wheels of the a/c contacted a 2 1/2 foot high barley crop, which slowed the a/c and pulled it to the ground. The a/c's wheels hit the ground and the a/c overturned, causing substantial damage.
