Incident at Casino, YT (Aerodrome - runway or taxiway surface condition)

Summary

1997-07-16: C-FYBZ was inbound to a private airstrip at Casino, YT with 3 people on board and following touchdown, the pilot could not stop the a/c on the runway. The a/c overran the end of the strip and came to rest among trees. There were no injuries, but the a/c received damage to the spinner, cowling and leading edge of one wing. The airstrip is made of dirt and gravel, has a significant downslope, and there had been rain in the area just prior to the incident. The pilot reported that he misjudged the degree of downslope, and combined with poor braking on the wet surface and no wind, the a/c went off the runway. He also said that there were tall willow trees and a fog bank at the other approach end, which precluded landing in the opposite direction.
