Incident at Edmonton, AB


1997-07-04: During the takeoff roll on Runway 12, at an estimated speed of 90 knots, the a/c injested a bird. The crew rejected the takeoff and exited the runway. It is reported that there is extensive damage to one of the engines. UPDATE Inspection revealed visible internal damage to Number 1 engine, so the engine was subsequently changed. The crew stated they had all lights and the weather radar on during takeoff as a precaution. No bird remains were found on the runway, so identification of the bird type has not been made.
