Accident at Balcarres, SK

Summary

1997-09-26: The RCMP detachment at Balcarres, SK (100 km northeast of Regina) reported to NavCanada that it appeared that the fully loaded spray plane may have struck a power line on departure from the grass airfield at Balcarres. After hitting the power line, the a/c impacted the ground and slid, but remained upright. The chemical spilled into the field where the a/c ended up.The pilot was able to get out of the a/c and walk to the local hospital, where he received treatment for minor back injuries and was released. It is reported that the a/c is substantially damaged. TSB have been notified. UPDATE TSB reports that the pilot believes a downdraft caused the a/c to hit the power line.
