Incident at Fort McMurray, AB

Summary

1997-06-23: C-GFHC was enroute from "Legend Fire Lookout" which is about 50 miles west of Fort MacKay when the pilot reported a hydraulic failure about 40 miles WNW of Ft McMurray. The helicopter, with 8 people on board, landed safely at 0153Z with ERS on standby. UPDATE Company maintenance reports that a pressurized line to the external hydraulic connector used for ground servicing of the hydraulic system, had chafed behind an attachment clamp resulting in the loss of fluid. The system is being checked to ensure that there are no other leaks, and if required, an SDR will be submitted. The company has initiated a check of those helicopters with similar systems to ensure the line near the connector is not worn.
