Incident at 10 miles NW of High Level, AB

Summary

1997-06-11: C-GHLU, a Cessna 185 on floats, was inbound to the base at Footner Lake when the pilot advised High Level FSS that he had lost engine power and was going to make a forced landing on Hutch Lake, 10 miles northwest of High Level. The a/c landed on Hutch Lake and there were no injuries and the a/c was not damaged. UPDATE The engine lost power due to fuel exhaustion. The pilot reported that he had mistakenly used a fuel dipstick that was calibrated for use on a C185 on wheels, rather than a float-equipped a/c and therefore the fuel reading was low.
