Accident at Ardrossan, AB

Summary

1997-06-04: During a local flight, C-FLAK experienced an engine failure and the pilot carried out a forced landing in a field 7 km. north of Ardrossan. Because of the soft condition of the field, part of the landing gear was torn off, which resulted in damage to the propellor and underside of the a/c. The pilot reported the accident directly to the TSB. NavCanada learned of the accident the following day when the RCMP called Edmonton FSS to ask for additional information. No ATS services were being provided at the time. UPDATE The pilot reported that during cruise flight at about 1000 feet AGL, the home-built a/c's engine, a Ford V6, suddenly stopped. He also stated that at the time all temperatures and pressures were indicating normal. The pilot will advise the cause of the engine failure.
