Incident at CALGARY INTL AB (CYYC)

Summary

1997-06-03: The pilot of C-FHYF, a Cessna 180, was instructed to taxi to position on Runway 25 at Taxiway C at Calgary. Northwest Airlines 1550, a DC-9, was cleared for takeoff on Runway 16 but the controller noticed C-FHYF start his takeoff roll without clearance, attempted to stop him and got no response. C-FHYF passed through Runway 16 when NWA 1550 was in the takeoff roll between Runway 10/28 and Taxiway C2, some 5000 feet from Runway 25. The pilot of C-FHYF later phoned explaining that it was his first time at Calgary and he apologized for his error. Tower is filing an Aircraft Occurrence Report.
