Incident at Thompson, Manitoba


1997-05-29: On return to the Thompson Airport from a charter flight to Laurie River, Manitoba, the pilot-in-command advised the Duty Specialist of an engine failure. The Specialist activated the CFR alarm due to the arrival of the aircraft (ETA 6 minutes from 1533Z). The aircraft landed without further incident on runway 05 at 1543Z and was escorted off. The runway was checked for debris but found no FOD. A departing VFR flight was delayed for approximately 1 minute to complete the check. The LGD Maintenance supervisor reported extensive starboard engine damage. The entire bottom half of the engine cowling was missing and oil had sprayed from the engine. The starboard gear also appeared to be damaged. Update to follow.
