Incident at Portage La Prairie, MB

Summary

1997-05-16: The a/c was returning from an IFR training flight and when the crew selected gear down they got an unsafe indication and the gear warning horn sounded. The a/c flew in the local area for an hour to burn fuel, then declared an emergency. The a/c landed on Runway 13R without incident. The a/c was shut down on the runway and towed to the ramp. Maintenance traced the problem to a faulty gear indicator unit and will submit an SDR to Transport Canada.
