Incident at Near Lethbridge, AB

Summary

1997-05-07: In cruise flight, the A320 crew observed an EICAS IR2 and IR3 (inertial reference) fault. The first officer's navigation and flight instrument display went blank and the auto pilot thrust failed. The crew performed the ECAM action and contacted Maintenance Operations Control. MOC was unable to provide any suggestions to restore the system and the a/c diverted to Calgary without further incident. ERS was not requested for the landing in Calgary. When the a/c was shut down and re-powered after arrival, everything appeared to be normal. The number 2 IR unit was changed and the a/c was returned to service.
