Accident at Calgary, AB

Summary

1997-04-24: The a/c was cleared to land on Runway 16 (wind 140/17) and goundlooped on landing and came to rest inverted on the grass, off the east side of the runway. CFR responded and extiguished a small fire. A Special was issued at 2033Z to indicate a wind shift to 290/15 at 2031Z. A large CB was NW of the airport at the time and was the likely cause of the wind shift. Runway 16 was closed until 2150Z and traffic was diverted to Runway 28. No delays were experienced by other a/c. UPDATE During the landing roll, the pilot reported that he had difficulty controlling the a/c and that the a/c veered to the left, ground looped, overturned on the grass off the runway, and came to rest substantially damaged. The only occupant, the pilot, was not injured.
