Incident at Lloydminster, AB

Summary

1997-04-17: A Piper PA-31, C-GJUS, was on an IFR flight plan from Edmonton to Lloydminster and on final approach to Runway 07 when a CF-18 Hornet passed in front of him at the same altitude and at a distance of 1/4 mile. During the flight from Edmonton, the same CF-18 had come up from behind the PA-31 and passed it at a distance of about 1/2 mile. The CF-18 was then observed by Lloydminster FSS staff circling to the southwest of the airport. When C-GJUS reported final at 5 miles and 3500 feet MSL, the CF-18 crossed his path from south to north at the same altitude and about 1/4 mile. The FSS had no radio communication with the pilot of the CF-18. The PA-31 landed safely, however, the passenger on the a/c and the pilot were very upset by the incident, and the pilot filed a complaint with Cold Lake ATS, as well as reporting the incident to Edmonton ACC.
