Incident at Rankin Inlet, NWT

1997-03-10: Inbound to Rankin Inlet, after an overshoot at Whale Cove, the pilot reported shutting down one engine due to loss of throttle control. The aircraft landed without further incident with CFR on standby. UPDATE: While approaching for landing at Whale Cove, the left engine stuck at 85 percent and could not be controlled. The pilot diverted to Rankin Inlet where ERS stood by for an uneventful single engine landing. Prior to the flight, the aircraft had been on the ground in Churchill, Manitoba, during a 2 day blizzard and the blowing snow had accumulated in various areas of the aircraft and likely turned to ice/water during the flight, thereby adversely restricting the throttle control movement. The problem was rectified by drying out and lubricating the throttle control components.
