Incident at Edmonton ACC, Alberta (Communication navigation surveillance/air traffic system)

Summary

1997-02-10: A snow plow cut through a fibre cable at Mulhurst (vicinity of Edmonton ACC). The result was a major disruption to communications within the ACC. In addition to losing the ADIS circuit (flight planning and weather), the ACC lost 5 PALS and at least 10 circuits. Service was restored by the line company at 0130Z. Duration of outage was 4 hours 30 minutes. Although the users were inconvenienced, particularly in areas of flight planning, no major delays were suffered by any flights.
