Incident at PRINCE ALBERT (GLASS FIELD) SK (CYPA)

Summary

1997-02-03: ABS 702 was on a flight from Winnipeg to Brandon when the pilot reported an unsafe nose gear indication and requested diversion to Saskatoon, and then changed that to Prince Albert. The aircraft landed at 1949Z and suffered a collapsed nose wheel. Permission was received to move the aircraft. When the aircraft's nose was being raised in order to pin the nose gear, the main gear collapsed. Work was in progress to remove the aircraft. The airport was NOTAMED closed till January 28, 1997 at 2330Z. UPDATE: While enroute to Saskatoon the pilot rechecked anticipated weather conditions and conferred with Company personnel after which the destination was changed to Prince Albert. All attempts to get the nose gear down and locked were unsuccessful. The aircraft was landed and during the landing roll the nosewheel collapsed and the aircraft came to a stop on the runway. There were no injuries and there was minor damage to the aircraft. Maintenance personnel found that the nose wheel oleo had lost pressure and deflated which prevented the gear from being lowered.
