Accident at Pine Lake Airstrip, Yukon (Aerodrome - runway or taxiway surface condition)

Summary

1997-07-04: Weather conditions in the vicinity of Watson Lake forced the pilot of the Cessna L-19 to backtrack toward Teslin. While en route to Teslin, he overflew the Pine Lake Airstrip which appeared to be suitable for a landing. He made a low pass and checked the snow condition. Shortly after touchdown, the aircraft broke through the packed snow crust and overturned. The propeller, vertical fin, and right wing sustained damage.
