Incident at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

Summary

1997-01-16: Shortly after departing Saskatoon, the crew of Canadian 1353, which was on a routine scheduled flight to Calgary, advised Saskatoon that they were unable to retract the landing gear. They requested and returned to Saskatoon where an uneventful landing was accomplished. UPDATE: Maintenance personnel carried out a full service on both main gears and the aircraft was returned to service after a series of satisfactory gear swings. It was determined that a main oleo did not extend fully after takeoff because of the cold ambient conditions, thereby preventing the activation of the squat switches and thus inhibiting the gear up selection.
