Incident at Winnipeg, 130 Mi W, Manitoba

Summary

1997-01-09: The pilot of KFA102, a B727, enroute Vancouver to Winnipeg, reported a wheel well fire indication when the aircraft was 130 miles west of Winnipeg. The flight landed safely at 2347Z on runway 13. The incident was treated as a major standby with stand down occurring at 2355Z. No other aircraft were inconvenienced. There were 145 SOB and 12,000 lbs of fuel. UPDATE: The Boeing 727-200, C-GJKF, was in level cruise nearing the end of the flight when the wheel well fire warning activated intermittently, and then remained on. The crew carried out the emergency checklist procedures with no secondary indications found. A normal descent and landing at the intended destination were completed without further incident. Maintenance inspection found a dirty fire detection wire connection. The connection was cleaned, rectifying the problem.
