Incident at FREDERICTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Summary

1997-12-22: ACA645, a DC 9 out of Fredericton to Toronto was issued a departure off RWY15 with a Fredericton 3 Westbound SID which required the pilot to make a climbing right turn to a heading of 270 as soon as practicable. FSS observed the aircraft in a left turn and advised the pilot that the SID was a westbound departure. According to the FSS the pilot stated that he had misread the SID and turned right. The Moncton controller observed the aircraft close to CYR724 in the right turn. When the pilot contacted the center the aircraft appeared to be on a heading of about 330. The controller issued a left turn to a heading of 270. There were other aircraft in the vicinity but no conflict invoved. TSB - no involvement.
