Incident at Gander Oceanic


1997-09-15: The Boeing 707, registration N707SK, was cleared on routing "Gander 48N50W 50N40W at FL310". After entering the ocean at 50W High Domestic Radar observed the aircraft South of the cleared course at 47-41-22N 48-35-12W. Contact was re-established and the aircraft returned to course. They reported back on course at 0518Z. N707SK was then queried and confirmed that the flight was still MNPS certified. As a precaution RJA262 at FL 310 routing 47N50W 49N40W was descended to FL290 at 50W. N707SK commented: They were coupled to one of three Omegas, only two VLF Omegas left. All channels good signals, no warning of failure. GNE report filed.
