Accident at Gander

Summary

1997-09-11: At appr. 1450z OUTCAST304 HV11 advised Gander tower that they had picked up an ELT signal. At 1455z SAR advised ELT source was 30 miles NW of Gander . When Gander tower contacted local operators, they were advised that a local C185 had departed. There had been no contact with Gander tower. Weather at 1400z M5 OVC vsby 12 miles. RCU304 advised Gander that they had located the downed aircraft and had shut off ELT at 1900z Aircraft extensively damaged. Pilot taken to hospital for observation. TSB evaluating. Other interested parties MAN, MAP.
