Incident at Gander Oceanic Airspace


1997-04-29: BAW216, a B747 was on a flight from Washington to London at FL350 on track Victor when it advised ATC that the altitude warning system had failed and it was no longer RVSM certified. ATC was unable to move the aircraft due to traffic at all levels. BAW216 executed contingency procedures by offsetting the track and descending to FL310. Traffic was exchanged with all concerned. BAW216 reported level at FL310 at 0214 and resumed course.
