Incident at Mary's Harbour NFLD

Summary

1997-04-17: The Twin Otter was on a scheduled flight from St. Anthony to Mary's Harbour. The crew were conducting a full procedure NDB approach with circling to runway 11. Positive ground contact was established at minimums and the crew commenced a left hand circling to runway 11. At the threshold of 11 the pilot carried out a missed approach because of the tail wind (022 M @ 15 kts). During the missed approach the right wing struck a tree. The aircraft continued circling for runway 29 and landed without further incident. The damage to the aircraft was described as being a tear in the leading edge approximately one foot in from the wing tip.
