Incident at Gander Oceanic near 50W (Conflict - loss of separation)
1997-03-03: This involved two aircraft, a DC10 with a call sign COA21 and a L1011 with a callsign DAL65. Both aircraft were on the same track and at the same altitude and Mach # of .82. Control estimates and progress reports indicated 10 minutes longitudinal separation between the aircraft at 20W, 30Wand 40W. Aircraft estimate at 50W was COA21 at 1500Z and DAL 65 at 1508Z but ATC estimate at 50 W was COA21 at 1457Z and DAL65 at 1507Z. Actual progress reports had COA21 at 50W at 1501Z and DAL at 1507Z. There was 6 minutes separation when 10 minutes was required. Nav Canada will be conducting an internal investigation.
