Accident at Port Alberni, B.C.


1996-08-19: The pilot of the Piper Pawnee was conducting a low-level , high resolution video survey in the Port Alberni Area. At the end of a video run, the pilot reduced speed and began a climbing left turn to reverse couse. Part way through the turn, the aircraft was struck by a sudden downdraft, and the airspeed dropped. The aircraft then struck and fell through some tall trees and crashed on its side. Extent of pilot's injuries unknown, aircraft was destroyed.
