Incident at Castlegar (Aerodrome - power failure)
Summary
1996-04-23: Castlegar FSS not able to open as scheduled due to commercial power failure at the airport, and airport EPU had not started. All main frequencies, monitoring equipment, MIDS, heating system and lighting circuits were u/s. Power had gone off at approx 0600Z and the battery backup for the MIDS and emergency lighting was depleted at approx 0800Z. Commercial power restored at 1420Z. Commercial power failure due to Osprey nest shorting out transformers. No impact on users other than reduced weather information.
