Incident at TORONTO / LESTER B. PEARSON INTL ON (CYYZ)

Summary

1996-10-30: Rubber fragments were found on the runway after the aircraft took off. The flight crew were notified of possible tire damage. The flight crew were unaware of anything unusual on the takeoff run and did not have any cockpit indication of a landing gear or tire related problem. Examination in Frankfurt, Germany revealed that the #8 main wheel tire tread had separated and there was a 40x40 inch hole in the aircraft wing to body fairing. The tire was replaced and temporary repairs made to the fairing. The aircraft was flown to Toronto and then to Vancouver where permanent repairs will be carried out to the fairing. Ops.
