Incident at enroute to TORONTO / LESTER B. PEARSON INTL ON (CYYZ)
Summary
1996-10-30: The cabin crew were serving refreshments from a cart with a flight attendant serving from each end of the cart. There was a pot of hot tea on a hinged shelf at the end closest to the front of the aircraft. The company reported that the flight attendant bent down to retrieve something and in the process of standing up, caused the shelf to unfold spilling hot tea on herself and onto the lap of a passenger. Both the flight attendant and the passenger received burns from the hot tea. The captain was notified and requested medical personnel meet the flight. He was informed that he would have to declare an emergency, which he did. The passenger was taken to a hospital for treatment. The flight attendant did not require hospital treatment. The captain reported the incident occurred while the aircraft was operating in smooth air without seatbelt signs illuminated. Ops. Impact -- unknown. From a TSB Initial Notification.
