Incident at Earlton, Ontario


1996-09-27: At 1946Z, C-FJEL was heard on 126.7, broadcasting his position and EAT for Earlton. The pilot indicated that his broadcast was on 126.7 and 122.0. Immediately following his broadcast, helicopter C-GOHY advised C-FJEL that he was over Earlton and would be clearing the zone momentarily enroute to New Liskeard. C-FJEL advised that there should be no conflict and he would be right base for runway 08 in eight minutes. At 1947Z, Timmins FSS called C-FJEL and provided winds and altimeter and requested the pilot switch to the MF and broadcast his position and intentions. The pilot acknowledged the advisory and informed he was changing to 122.0. At 1956Z, Truck20 at Earlton was preparing to proceed onto runway 08/26 from the south side at the threshold of runway 26 when he observed C-FJEL on final approach for runway 08. Truck20 held short of the runway. The aircraft landed without incident. The vehicle operator advised that no pilot broadcast was heard during the past 10-15 minute period. Ops. Impact -- none.
