Incident at TORONTO / BILLY BISHOP TORONTO CITY AIRPORT ON (CYTZ)
Summary
1996-09-23: At 2101Z, C-GGNJ reported hearing an ELT transmission. Confirmed on ground portable but not received on main 121.5 panel transceiver. At 2105Z (test period over), ELT still sounding. Checked with Buttonville and Oshawa towers - not receiving it. Advised all flight schools and FBOs, shift manager at Toronto ACC. At 2107Z, DF bearing indicated 022-025 degrees, approximately. At 2120Z, Toronto Acc told about DF info. At 2138Z, Trenton RCC called - Hercules to overfly. 2145-2230Z, foot search with handheld detector - indecisive. 2248Z, RCU305 air search completed, landed CYTZ. 2345Z, ELT going off found in C-FWIE. No damage to aircraft. ELT turned off. Ops. Impact -- none.
