Incident at TORONTO / LESTER B. PEARSON INTL ON (CYYZ) (ATM - other)
1996-09-09: At 1541Z, the RDP channel B failed due to a lan problem. At 1656Z, after doing a "crash dump", channel B was returned to service. At 1838Z, channel B failed again due to a lan problem and would not come back up. At 1929Z, lan A was off-lined to replace a component. At 1938Z, the previous solution did not correct the problem so lan A was off-lined once more to replace the same component. At 2004Z, lan A was again taken off line to replace a transceiver. At 2031Z, both lan A and B were put on line and a cable problem was suspected and investigated. At 2130Z, the problem was determined to be a connector failure as opposed to a cable problem. At 2241Z, after repairs and diagnostics, the system was brought back to normal. Ops. Impact -- although this failure had no impact on th eusers of the system, Toronto ACC was operating on a single channel of the RDPS for approximately five hours with no assurances of the stability of the system.
